Core beads built-in types now only include work types:
- bug, feature, task, epic, chore
Gas Town types (molecule, gate, convoy, merge-request, slot, agent,
role, rig, event, message) are now "well-known custom types":
- Constants still exist for code convenience
- Require types.custom configuration for validation
- bd types command shows core types and configured custom types
Changes:
- types.go: Separate core work types from well-known custom types
- IsValid(): Only accepts core work types
- bd types: Updated to show core types and custom types from config
- memory.go: Use ValidateWithCustom for custom type support
- multirepo.go: Only check core types as built-in
- Updated all tests to configure custom types
This allows Gas Town (and other projects) to define their own types
via config while keeping beads core focused on work tracking.

Replaces manual working directory save/restore patterns
with Go's built-in `t.Chdir()` helper across 23 test files.
The manual pattern involved calling `os.Getwd()` to save
the original directory, using `defer os.Chdir(origWd)` for
restoration, and manually handling errors during directory
changes. This boilerplate has been replaced with single
`t.Chdir(path)` calls that handle cleanup automatically.
The `t.Chdir()` method automatically restores the working
directory when the test completes, eliminating the need for
manual defer statements and error handling.
Total:
~75 instances replaced (assuming Claude's math is right)

Multiple test files were still using the old sqlite.New(path) signature
instead of the new sqlite.New(ctx, path) signature. This was causing
compilation failures in the test suite.
Fixed files:
- internal/importer/importer_test.go
- internal/importer/external_ref_test.go
- internal/importer/timestamp_test.go
- internal/rpc/limits_test.go
- internal/rpc/list_filters_test.go
- internal/rpc/rpc_test.go
- internal/rpc/status_test.go
- internal/syncbranch/syncbranch_test.go
Add external_ref field to CreateArgs and UpdateArgs RPC protocol
structs to enable linking issues to external systems (GitHub, Jira,
Shortcut, etc.) when using daemon mode.
Changes:
- Add ExternalRef field to rpc.CreateArgs and rpc.UpdateArgs
- Update bd create/update commands to pass external_ref via RPC
- Update daemon handlers to process external_ref field
- Add integration tests for create and update operations
The --external-ref flag now works correctly in both daemon and direct modes.

- Add failIfProductionDatabase() check in Go test helpers
- Add temp directory verification in RPC test setup
- Create conftest.py with pytest safety checks for Python tests
- Add BEADS_TEST_MODE env var to mark test execution
- Tests now fail fast if they detect production .beads/ usage
This prevents test issues from polluting the production database
like the incident on Nov 7, 2025 where 29+ test issues were created
in .beads/beads.db instead of isolated test databases.

- Dereference Design, AcceptanceCriteria, Notes, and Assignee pointers in updatesFromArgs
- Fixes EOF errors when using --notes, --design, --assignee, or --acceptance-criteria flags
- Enhance TestUpdateIssue to verify all pointer-dereferenced fields are correctly stored
Critical fix for silent data corruption where database created 173
duplicate issues with wrong prefix (beads- instead of bd-).
Root cause: When issue_prefix config was missing, CreateIssue fell
back to deriving prefix from database filename (beads.db → 'beads'),
while auto-import imported bd- issues from git with SkipPrefixValidation.
This created duplicates.
Changes:
1. Removed derivePrefixFromPath() - never derive prefix from filename
2. CreateIssue/CreateIssues now REJECT if issue_prefix config missing
- Fail-fast with clear error message
3. Auto-import now SETS issue_prefix from first imported issue if missing
- Handles fresh clone scenario safely
4. Added newTestStore() helper that sets issue_prefix for tests
5. Updated test setup in multiple files to prevent test failures

Tests were connecting to test daemon but daemon routed to production DB via
findDatabaseForCwd(). Fixed by ensuring tests use isolated .beads directories
and change working directory to tmpDir.
Changes:
- bench_test.go: Added .beads subdir, chdir, and client.dbPath to setupBenchServer
- bench_test.go: Set dbPath for goroutine clients in BenchmarkConcurrentAgents
- comments_test.go: Refactored to use setupTestServer
- version_test.go: Fixed 4 tests to use setupTestServerIsolated with proper isolation
- rpc_test.go: Added setupTestServerIsolated() helper for custom test setup
Verified: RPC test suite runs with no database pollution (151→151 issues)

- Remove ~/.beads/bd.sock fallback in getSocketPath()
- Always return local socket path (.beads/bd.sock)
- Add migration warning if old global socket exists
- Update AGENTS.md to remove global daemon references
- Document breaking change in CHANGELOG.md
- Fix test isolation: tests now use temp .beads dir and chdir
Prevents cross-project daemon connections and database pollution.
Each project must use its own local daemon.

Fixes bd-160
The race was between Start() writing s.listener and Stop() reading it.
Now all listener access is protected by the server mutex:
- Start() stores listener under lock after creation
- Accept loop reads listener under RLock
- Stop() closes listener under lock
All RPC tests now pass with -race flag.
